Interior work is the final and, perhaps, one of the most creative and exciting moments in the long process of building and arranging new housing. Since frame houses are very popular today, and this is the option chosen by people who prefer saving (within reasonable limits, of course), it will be relevant to talk about finishing the budget - and, at the same time, high-quality. After all, if you choose too expensive options, then the savings obtained during construction will be practically "nullified."
In this article we will talk about what the interior decoration of a frame house can be, and how to cope with all the necessary work with your own hands.
What is commonly understood by the definition of "interior decoration"?
The interior design of the building is the logical conclusion of the entire construction process. Interior decoration is divided into two important stages: roughing and finishing. With your own hands you can cope with both the first and second types of work, because creating interiors of a competently constructed frame house is a pleasure!
There are several of the rules, to consider which, when starting finishing work in a frame house, it is necessary:
- Do-it-yourself decoration of rooms is carried out alternately, you should not proceed to the inner lining of all the rooms of your skeleton at once;
- the first room where the finishing work will be carried out is to choose the farthest, if you count from the front door;
- First, you should lay communications (electric cable, water pipes, heating elements, etc.) - and only after this can be started wall sheathing, ceiling, flooring;
- in frame, as in any other building, repairs should be performed "from top to bottom." That is, initially the ceiling surface will be sheathed with drywall or other suitable materials, then you can deal with walls and, finally, the floor. There is only one exception - stretch ceilings, which are mounted already after the completion of wall repairs.
Rough frame home interior decoration
Finishing roughing is necessary in order to carefully prepare all the surfaces available in the premises (from ceiling to floor) for laying “finishing” materials. Successful finishing depends largely on how well the “draft” preparatory measures were carried out. They include leveling surfaces: with drywall, plaster mixes, etc., as well as creating a “rough floor” (this can be a concrete screed, laying boards on logs, leveling with plywood, etc.).
Universal drywall
The most common option (primarily due to the ease of installation and financial availability) is, of course, wall decoration and decoration of the ceilings with drywall. It will not be so difficult to do such a job with your own hands - however, you won’t be able to cope with this kind of work on your own, one or two assistants should be invited to install bulky sheets.
The stages of facing gypsum plasterboard surfaces will be as follows:
Step 1. We prepare materials and tools. You will need a tape measure, a building level, a sharp knife for cutting sheets, a putty knife for subsequent putty joints, tape measure, fasteners, a screwdriver.
Step 2 We outline the lines and fix the start profile on the walls and on the ceiling surface with self-tapping screws.
Step 3 The free space in the frame should be filled with materials for insulation (for example, you can take the most popular option - stone wool).
Step 4 We put drywall sheets on the profile, fix it with self-tapping screws, recessing the fastener cap by at least 1 mm.
Step 5 Joints between sheets, all existing seams are filled with a putty compound (you can take a ready-made compound). Level the surface.
Step 6 Grind the joints with sanding sandpaper (you need to take paper with fine grain). The surface is prepared for subsequent finishing.
This video shows the entire process of wall mounting:
The alignment of walls and ceilings with OSB slabs is carried out as well as with drywall. The only caveat: this material is heavier, and therefore, the frame for it should be stronger and more reliable. To fix the sheets to the wooden elements of the frame you created, you should use special spiral five-centimeter nails.
OSB sheets are often used for rough work to create a flat floor surface. Stack such sheets perpendicular to the lags. By the same principle, floors can be leveled using plywood.
Finishing rooms in frame buildings
Almost the same materials can be used for finishing and finishing work as for decorating rooms in any other buildings. The most popular wall finishing solutions:
- coloring with special interior paints;
- lining of prepared wall surfaces with a wooden clapboard. We examined this process in detail in the article Finishing the house with clapboard;
- the use of wallpaper of various types (vinyl, non-woven, paper, "liquid wallpaper", photo wallpaper or bamboo that is environmentally friendly and fashionable today);
- the use of ceramic tiles or plastic panels (relevant for bathrooms, bathrooms, the creation of kitchen "aprons"). The panels can be mounted on a pre-prepared frame made of a metal profile, or directly on drywall (for wet rooms gypsum plasterboards must be special - with maximum moisture resistance). As for ceramic tiles, the surface for its installation should be prepared especially carefully. As a rule, the tile is mounted either on the plastered surface or directly on the drywall previously installed on the wall surface. For frame, relatively light walls, the second option is preferable;
- decorative plaster: material that was once considered luxurious and very expensive, but today has become available even with a very modest budget for your repair. Aesthetic, refractory, durable plaster can be applied on pre-prepared and carefully leveled walls with your own hands.(in construction stores, for this purpose, you can purchase special curly spatulas with which various interesting patterns are made on the walls and unusual textures are created).
Ceilings in frame buildings
To design the ceiling surface in the rooms of a residential building, various materials available on the modern construction market can be used. As a rule, most of the works involving the design of ceilings can be relatively easy to do with your own hands. The most common ceiling finishes are as follows:
- stretch ceilings (they are mounted exclusively by specialists using special types of equipment);
- drywall (with its help it is possible to create both a simple even ceiling and multilevel, complex and unusual types of structures);
- coffered ceilings: are made of wood panels (this may be lining, MDF boards), are mounted on a pre-prepared frame;
- plastic ceilings (recommended exclusively for non-residential rooms: bathroom, bathroom, utility rooms, possibly (with a minimum repair budget) - a kitchen;
- fiberboard boards.
Before proceeding with the design of the ceiling surface, it is very important to carry out preparatory work and lay vapor barrier and thermal insulation. Vapor barrier materials are mainly special polymer membranes, various films or foil materials. Mineral wool is usually chosen for thermal insulation, and foam and ecowool are much less commonly used.
A few words should be said about what materials should be chosen for finishing floors. Given that the frame structures are built of natural wood, it will be fair to give preference to wooden coatings: laminate flooring. Often for budget repairs, such modern material as a laminate is used.
However, for a kitchen, humid rooms, as well as for rooms with the highest possible traffic (for example, a corridor), the use of a laminate is more than undesirable. In adverse conditions, such a material will quickly lose its qualities, both aesthetic and functional.
For a bathroom, kitchen, bathroom, hallway, the actual solution is porcelain tiles, floor tiles. Such material is laid on a pre-prepared screed using special adhesive compositions. In addition, the tile can be laid on the floor surface, which is aligned with plywood.
Practical, comfortable and durable flooring material - this linoleum. But its important drawback is that this material is synthetic, its environmental characteristics are quite low. Therefore, it will be reasonable to finish the floor using linoleum, primarily in non-residential and utility rooms of your frame house.
And here is an example of an already completed interior decoration with the explanations of the builders:
